Living Lent – Day 27

Read… Jeremiah 31: 31-34

But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days’, says the Lord: ‘I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

This reminds me of the story of Naomi and Ruth, when Ruth would not leave her mother-in- law and instead of returning to her own people said, ‘Where you go I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God will be my God’.

I love these words which tell of a faithful, loving relationship – between a mother-in- law and daughter-in- law and between God and us.

Ponder… True religious practice appears to consist of obedience to God because people ‘know’ God. What do you think it means to know God?

Pray… FOR OUR COMMUNITY We pray for all those who enable our ministry of hospitality within our community. We thank God that there are always those who are willing to provide refreshments for others and we acknowledge the importance of this ministry. FOR THE WORLD We think of all those who are involved in serving food and drinks in so many different situations and places throughout our world. We think especially of those who are serving life-giving food and drinks and we pray for the work that they do.

Act… Take longer over breakfast and savour what you are eating.
