Living Lent – Day 28

Read… Lamentations 3: 1-9

I am one who has seen affliction under the rod of God’s wrath

A few weeks ago I went to lead worship at Northam Methodist Church. I was met in the vestry by Gordon who told me the story of his week. His wife was in hospital having treatment for cancer and his daughter had died in Saudi Arabia before she could take up her teaching post over there.

He went on to pray the most remarkable vestry prayer I have ever heard. Out of his own sorrow he prayed for those in sorrow and need throughout the world.

It has been my privilege throughout my journey of faith to meet many people like Gordon, whose faith and prayers transcend our theology or church differences. They have helped me on my way and made my own faith stronger.

Thankyou Gordon for making that time of worship a bit special. And as if that wasn’t enough, he then went on to work the machine that played the hymn tunes!

Ponder… Sometimes people struggle to know whether God is listening to their prayers or not. What can you say to them that might help them in this situation?

Pray… FOR OUR COMMUNITY We pray for those within our community who are our flower arrangers, who work tirelessly to ensure that our church is beautifully decorated with fresh flowers each week. We thank God for their skill, patience and dedication and honour the work that they do. FOR THE WORLD Spend some moments considering the beauty of our natural world. Think of your favourite flower – how it looks and how it smells, and thank God for the diversity of His creation. Pray that we may be good stewards of the world in which we are living.

Act… Make a list of all the good things in your life.
