On Sunday the 27th May we were joined for worship by the Cameroon Church Community, listen here!

Living Lent – Day 21

Read… Jeremiah 26: 12-16, 24

…he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

Jeremiah is taken before the all the officials, priest and other prophets on trial for his life. It is hardly surprising after what he has been saying. Notice how Jeremiah does not water down his message but courageously restates it.

‘Now reform your ways and your actions and obey the Lord your God.’

He does not attempt to defend himself: ‘As for me, I am in your hands; do to me whatever you think is good and right.’

What an example of how to deal with a personal attack!

But he does add: ’but the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words in your hearing’.

Some of the officials are swayed but others recalled another precedence when Uriah, another prophet had been killed (verses 20 -23).

However, with the support of Ahikam, Jeremiah is saved.

Those serving and speaking out for God, need our prayers for courage and strength to continue. They may not be very popular – even in the church. Pope Francis is being led by God to bring in many reforms to the Roman Catholic Church and is experiencing powerful opposition. Married priests, birth control and remarried divorcees are just a few of what many regard as ‘ultimate truths’ which cannot be changed.

Ponder… In what ways can you help and support those who are very publicly serving God?

Pray… FOR OUR COMMUNITY Pray for those in our church community who are widows or widowers, some of whom have been alone for many years, and some whose bereavement is more recent. The pain of losing a partner never really goes away, but we pray that as a community we may offer support, comfort and understanding. FOR THE WORLD We pray for all of those who have lost significant partners. We thank God for the blessing of relationships, and for the joy that many experience in their partnerships. Although now alone, we pray that those widowed may continue to feel the comfort of the presence of a loved one in their hearts, and that they may cherish the memories of their lives together.

Act… Listen to a piece of music that makes you feel relaxed.
